I see a particular piece of sculpture as being a fixed point in ongoing process of transformation from one state to another Intensely personal but also informed and influenced by a complex network of external forces which may not be consciously understood at the time.
Finding this point is as much an intuitive decision as an intellectual one and I consider meaning and content to be as much about a direct response on an aesthetic level as an intellectual reading of symbolic meaning.
Materials like cast iron and steel can undergo transformations which are radical and violent and yet result in art objects which are extremely enduring.
